Dr. Ezekiel Nukuro,

Employed by WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific
(WPRO) since December 2000, Dr. Ezekiel Nukuro currently
serves as WPRO’s Regional Adviser in HRH since
May 2003. His main responsibilities include, among
others: regional HRH programme development, monitoring,
evaluation and reporting; mobilization of resources
to support HRH programmes in the region; technical
support for the enhancement of the quality and standards
of health professional education and training, including
medical education; planning and management of the
WHO Fellowships programme in the region; advocate
for, and facilitate partnerships /networks and coordinated
approach in strengthening HRH capacity of Member States;
and providing technical support in aspects of HRH
to Member States where possible.
After graduating from the Fiji School of Medicine
in 1981, Dr. Nukuro worked at the Solomon Islands
Government’s Ministry of Health and Medical
Services as a physician and later as the Director
of Health services in two remote provinces of the
country. After obtaining his Masters degree in Community
Health in UK in 1987, he served as Chief Medical Officer,
Public Health and was promoted to the post of Undersecretary
Health Improvement in the MOH from 1989 to July 1997.
He then joined UNICEF (Pacific Office) to work on
the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights
of the Child (CRC) and child protection programmes
in the Pacific Island countries. Right before joining
WHO, he served as the adviser on advocacy, information
and communication for the Secretariat of the Pacific
Community’s (SPC) population and reproductive
health programmes. |
